A Prince Georgeโs County police officer was killed in a crash crashed early Saturday morning.
Chief Mark Magaw said Officer Brennan Rabain, 26, was killed in the line of duty during an accident occurred at 3:20 a.m. in the 9400 block of Copernicus Drive in Lanham, Maryland.
Rabain had been with the department for less than two years.
Magaw said a preliminary investigation showed Rabain was attempting a traffic stop in the area when he crashed into a fence.
Later Saturday, police confirmed that a woman was in the car at the time of the crash. She suffered minor injuries in the crash, including shock, News4's Darcy Spencer said. The woman, who has not been identified, was hospitalized Saturday.
Rabain had been off duty, but when he initiated the traffic stop, he went back on duty, police said.
Rabain left behind a 3-year-old daughter, police said. His fellow officers have established a GoFundMe site to assist the family; click here for details.
