A Maryland home became engulfed in flames after a possible explosion Monday morning.
Firefighters arrived to find a house in the 4100 block of Sparkleberry Court in Prince Frederick fully engulfed about 11 a.m., the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department said. The two residents were found outside at a neighbor’s home.
Firefighters only extinguished the fire from outside. Sixty firefighters responded, including units from inside and outside of Calvert County, and the fire was controlled in about 15 minutes, according to the fire department.

The house and cars on the properly were completely destroyed, but other structures were saved, the fire department said.
The residents of the house were conscious, alert and breathing when they were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
There were initial reports that an explosion was heard, but the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the fire department said.

The loss is estimated at $350,000. The home had smoke alarms but it is unknown if they were working.
