A man got into an argument with his girlfriend in Queen Anne’s County, Maryland, and set himself on fire after the conflict, according to the Maryland State Police.
Investigators said Deny Richard Coursey, 42, of Centerville, was being treated at Easton Memorial Hospital for numerous burns after allegedly setting himself on fire. He is expected to be transferred to a burn center for treatment.
Police said troopers were called to the John Brown Road at Maryland Route 213 on Tuesday afternoon for a report of a car fire. When they arrived, witnesses said a man lit himself on fire at the scene and drove away.
Investigators said Coursey pulled his vehicle in front of another vehicle being driven by a woman. The woman said Coursey, her boyfriend, got out of his vehicle and approached her vehicle with a fuel can in his hand.
There was a short argument outside the woman’s car, and Coursey doused himself with fuel and lit himself on fire. Investigators said he went back to his car and drove away.
Police said they believe the incident is an ongoing domestic situation from Monday night, which was handled by the Queen Anne’s Sheriff’s Office. An emergency petition for an evaluation of Coursey has been filed.
