A 22-year-old man died after he was shot Wednesday afternoon on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Southeast D.C., police said.
Demetrius Christopher Medlay was shot about 2:50 p.m. on the 3100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, D.C. police said.
Witnesses said they heard three to four shots and then saw Medlay collapse near Hong Kong Restaurant. He was taken with gunshot wounds to a hospital, where he died, police said.
Medlay's death is being investigated as a homicide.
Sixteen people have died of homicide in D.C. thus far in 2016, which is on par with the homicide count by the same date last year, D.C. crime statistics show.
