A coyote that was being kept as a pet was captured in Calvert County, Maryland, Wednesday morning, and euthanized.
Someone saw the coyote running loose in the area of Neptune's restaurant in North Beach just after 8 a.m. An animal control officer captured the coyote nearby using poles.
Police say the coyote was wearing a blue collar when it was caught.
The coyote's owner told investigators he got the coyote from Virginia when it was a puppy.
The coyote was humanely euthanized because of a possible exposure to rabies and sent to a state lab for testing. The Calvert County Sheriffs Office said Thursday afternoon that it has tested negative.
It is illegal to own a coyote in Maryland; charges are pending against the owner.
