The Secret Service took a person into custody for attempting to scale the north fence of the White House Tuesday afternoon.
The individual jumped over the bike rack on Pennsylvania Avenue about 4:15 p.m. but did not make it over the fence, according to the Secret Service. Members of the public were told to stay away from the area while Secret Service officers took the person into custody.
The would-be fence jumper was charged with unlawful entry and taken to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Also Tuesday, hearings for two other White House suspects were canceled. A Seattle-area woman arrested three times for jumping the White House fence remains under mental health care in a federal prison in Texas. A man arrested after a suspicious package triggered a White House lockdown is receiving mental health care at a federal facility in New York.
