A search warrant obtained by News4 shows 73-year-old Jacqueline Mars told a witness she had fallen asleep behind the wheel right before a fatal accident earlier this month in Northern Virginia.
Mars, the heiress to chocolate empire Mars, Inc. crashed her Porsche SUV into a minivan Oct. 6, killing 86-year-old Irene Ellisor.
Police said Mars was driving west along Route 50 near Briar Patch Lane in Aldie, Va., when she crossed the median around 2:30 p.m. and collided with a minivan carrying six people.
The pregnant driver of the minivan was critically injured, and lost her baby according to Forbes magazine. The other four passengers, along with Mars, were also hospitalized.
Charges against Mars are pending.
