An app hopes to deliver food and items directly to airline passengers on either side of the security gate.
Airport Sherpa was launched at Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) Tuesday. Travelers can order food and retail items up to a week in advance through the app.
“We created Airport Sherpa to enhance the travel experience for passengers by providing them with an on-demand delivery service, something users have grown accustomed to for services outside of the airport,” said Patrick DellaValle, co-founder of Airport Sherpa. “This app will give travelers access to hundreds of stores across terminals right at their fingertips.”
Couriers, called Sherpas, have badges clearing them through security checkpoints and enabling them to deliver items directly to travelers.
Based on how far the store is from the gate, delivery fees range from $3.99-$7.99 and delivery times between 15-45 minutes, according to Jaclyn Boschetti, head of Airport Sherpa public relations.
The app is integrated with the users flight information, including any delays, gate location changes or if a connection is altered, according to a press release.
At BWI, Airport Sherpa serves 26 locations including Chick-Fil-a, Cinnabon, Subway and Swarovski. “The vendors are really excited about [the app],” Boschetti said.

Throughout 2017 and 2018, the company plans to expand to 10-15 of the largest airports in the U.S., she said.
