A man was struck and killed by an Amtrak passenger train on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the man was in the area of the tracks near South Summit Avenue and Wells Avenue in Gaithersburg, Maryland, when he was hit by an eastbound train shortly before 2 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene and has not been identified.
Train service for Amtrak, MARC, and CSX was stopped while authorities investigated the scene. Shortly before 5 p.m., service was restored but limited to single tracking.
It is unclear when normal service will resume. Officials said the train was making a stop in Rockville for an onboard medical emergency when the collision occurred.
