A woman was killed Wednesday morning when she tried to make a U-turn on I-66, Virginia State Police said.
The accident happened at 9:45 a.m., involving two vehicles near exit 47 for Sudley Road.
State Police said 89-year-old Cecilia Eck, driving a Chevy Lumina sedan was traveling westbound when she attempted to make a turn through an emergency cross-over to the eastbound lanes.
The woman's vehicle was immediately struck in the driver's side door by a Ford Ranger. The woman died from injuries sustained in the impact. Police said neither of the two occupants in the Ranger were seriously hurt.
Virginia State Police said no charges will be filed.
