A Prince George's County police officer was killed in a crash in Northern Virginia, on Interstate 395 near the Beltway, police say.
Kevin L. Brooks, 44, suffered a medical emergency while driving Tuesday afternoon in the southbound lanes of I-395, just north of I-495, Virginia State Police said. His car struck a pickup truck, ran off the road, hit a Jersey wall and struck another truck, police said.
A bystander administered CPR just after the crash, police said.
Brooks was taken to Fairfax Inova Hospital, where he died, police said. He had been on the Prince George's County police force for 12 years. Brooks was a husband and father, according to police.
Brooks was not on duty when he crashed. An investigation on the cause of the crash is underway. No one else was injured, police said.
