The death of a toddler in Southeast D.C. is being investigated as a homicide.
Three-year-old Xavier Lyles was found dead Tuesday of multiple blunt force injuries, police said. The little boy's body was found Tuesday around 11 a.m. after police were called a home in the 2500 block of Pomeroy Road SE.
Police were dispatched there for the report of an unconscious child. Xavier was unresponsive when they arrived, and shortly after, D.C. Fire and EMS reached the scene. Emergency crews found no signs consistent with life.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy, and Xavier's death was ruled a homicide.
"I'm feeling sad, hurt, disgusted. My heart fell to my feet," Xavier's aunt told News4. "It was such a shock. This is tragic."
She said the last people Xavier was around were his mother and her boyfriend, and his brothers and sisters.
Police said there have been no arrests in the case yet. The investigation is continuing.
