Educators and local officials will give away more than 2,000 books to District of Columbia children this weekend.
The Washington Teachers' Union says the new books will be given away Saturday at the Dorothy I. Height library on Benning Road in northeast Washington. Teachers, school support staff and others will give away books for first through third graders starting at 10 a.m. Older children will be encouraged to get library cards.
The books are being provided through First Book, a District of Columbia-based nonprofit.
