A total of 26 children will have their adoptions finalized as part of "Adoption Day'' at Superior Court in Washington.
The adoptions will be finalized Saturday during this year's Adoption Day ceremony. Each child and his or her family will be introduced, and a judge will then sign their final adoption decree.
This is the 29th time the court has held an Adoption Day ceremony. The event is co-hosted by the court and the D.C. Child and Family Services Agency. Officials say the ceremony is designed to celebrate the joys of adoption and encourage residents to consider adopting or fostering a child.
D.C. Child and Family Services Agency says it is currently seeking adoptive homes for 86 of the 1,100 children in foster care.
