#CloseFCPS Trends Worldwide on Twitter as Students Call for Snow Day

Schools in D.C. and the majority of Northern Virginia opened on time Tuesday morning, upsetting some parents and students, especially in Fairfax County.

Through much of the morning, students voiced their opinion on having to go to class and made #CloseFCPS a trending topic worldwide on Twitter.

"The traffic is just dangerous, and it’s awful," one parent said.

The school system later canceled preschool classes and posted an apology on its website.

"We apologize for the difficulties the weather caused this morning...The decision was made with the best information we had very early this morning. Needless to say, the conditions were far worse than anticipated," the statement read.

While schools officials say they are aware some people are calling for school to be canceled, they feel "students are safest at school when parents have not had a chance to make alternate plans."

Parents are allowed to pick up their children early. Officials have also canceled afternoon and evening activities.
