FAIRFAX, Va. -- A businessman who stole $3 million from northern Virginia homeowner associations has been convicted of going on a drunken shooting spree after his thefts were uncovered.
Jeffrey S. Koger entered Alford pleas Tuesday in Fairfax County court to charges including attempted capital murder. The plea means Koger does not admit guilt but acknowledges that prosecutors have enough evidence to convict.
As Koger's embezzlement scheme unraveled last February, he shot at a cab driver, then drove to a police station and shot two bystanders, prosecutors said. All three suffered serious injuries.
Police chased Koger, who fired on officers with a double-barreled shotgun.
Koger doesn't remember what happened, he said.
He faces up to life in prison and has already been sentenced to more than five years for the thefts.
