A man who was shot multiple times in southeast D.C. Tuesday afternoon has died.
Crews responded to the 1900 block of Bruce Place SE around 1:30 p.m. after a witness frantically knocked on a neighbor's door, yelling, "Call the police, a boy's been shot!"
First responders found 22-year-old Gerald Martin of northeast D.C. unconscious and not breathing. He was taken to a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and later pronounced dead.
Martin was shot in the 1800 block of Tobias Drive SE and eventually collapsed on Bruce Place, police said.
His death is being investigated as a homicide.
Among the detectives, K-9 units and officers responding to the scene, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier was on hand.
"I can tell you this is a really quiet neighborhood, so this is unusual," Lanier said. "There was a sound of gunshots and we have a lot of officers who live in this neighborhood and were in the area who heard the gunshots."
