D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has nominated former D.C. Council member Carol Schwartz to the D.C. Board of Ethics and Government Accountability.
Schwartz unsuccessfully ran against Bowser as an independent in the District's 2014 mayoral race. It was her fifth bid for mayor; she ran four other times as a Republican.
Schwartz has a long local resume: She served two terms on the school board and four terms on the D.C. Council, serving on various committees throughout the years. Most recently, she was chair of the Council's Committee on Workforce Development and Government Operations until 2009.
LaToya Foster, a representative from Bowser's office, said Bowser is confident in the nomination.
"The mayor looks for the best and the brightest with all her nominations," Foster said. "We're hopeful the council will see the experience this nomination brings."
Schwartz will replace Laura Richards and is slated to serve a six-year term.
