Police: “Take Precautions” After Mother-Daughter Killings

Two mother-daughter pairs killed in same neighborhood this winter

LARGO, Md. -- "We haven't ruled anything out.  There's a possibility that these cases are linked.  We need folks to take precautions," police warned Tuesday night.

Delores Dewitt, 42, and her 19-year-old daughter Ebony were discovered inside a car in the driveway of an empty home early Monday morning.  Firefighters were called to the blaze in a driveway on Webbwood Court in Largo at about 3:40 a.m. and found the bodies after putting out the flames, Cpl. Mike Rodriguez said.  The car had been reported stolen from a home a few blocks away.

The Dewitt women's deaths share some eerie similarities with the deaths of  another mother and daughter who were found killed in the same neighborhood on Jan. 26.  In both cases, the adult victims were nurses and apparently were killed along with their teenage daughters.

Karen Lofton, 45, and her 16-year-old daughter, Karissa, were shot to death less than a mile from the scene of Monday's crime.

"With the new case, we're going to go back to the first case and maybe ask questions we didn't think of in the first case," Prince George's County police Maj. Andrew Ellis said.  "It also gives us a point of reference to move forward to see what similarities may exist."

Prince George's Police Chief Roberto Hylton has ordered a special task force to investigate these two cases.  Police are offering two $25,000 rewards, one for each of the double murders.
