Several at Bull Run Hospitalized Due to Heat

Several people who attended a Civil War reenactment to mark the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Bull Run were taken to hospitals for heat-related illnesses, but none of them was believed to be critically sickened, Joseph Robertson, battalion chief for the Prince William County fire and rescue service, said Saturday.

Participants turned out Saturday in Manassas, Va., to re-enact the Civil War's first major land battle, also known as the Battle of Manassas. Re-enactment events continue today.

Robertson, battalion chief for the Prince William County fire and rescue service, said almost 150 people were evaluated, mostly for heat-related illnesses. He said 11 people were taken to hospitals.

Officials had planned for the event for a year and prepared for hot temperatures, Robertson. Outdoor programs were adjusted because of the dangerously high temperatures.
