Virginia Man Facing More Charges in Terror Case

Authorities filed new charges against a northern Virginia man charged with offering himself as a fighter to a Somali terror group.

Zachary A. Chesser was charged Monday with one count of communicating threats and another count of soliciting crimes of violence, charges that carry a total of 15 years in prison. He had already been charged with material support to terrorists in July.

According to an FBI affidavit, Chesser told agents that he twice tried to travel to Somalia to join the al-Qaida linked terrorist group al-Shabab.

Chesser's wife, Proscovia Kampire Nzabanita, also was charged Monday with one count of making a false statement, which could carry a prison sentence of up to eight years.
