Drivers of hybrid vehicles in northern Virginia are getting another break from rush hour headaches.
They get to use the HOV lanes for another year.
Hybrids will now be able to use the high occupancy vehicle lanes on I-95/395, I-66 and the Dulles Toll Road until June 30, 2011, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. One thing hasn't changed: only vehicles with the required clean fuel license plates, issued before July 1, 2006, are eligible.
Gov. Bob McDonnell signed the one-year extension into law March 13.
Not all hybrids qualify for the special plates, so check the DMV web site for a list of eligible cars.
