A driver of a SuperShuttle van is being questioned by state police after being suspected of hitting several vehicles between the District and Dulles International Airport.
Virginia State Police charged Muhammed Teshale, 25, of Alexandria, Va., with one felony count of hit-and-run in Fairfax County, and additional charges are pending for several Arlington County crashes.
The alleged incidents started at about 9:30 a.m.
Three hit-and-run crashes were reported near the 70-mile marker in the westbound lanes of Interstate 66. Virginia State Police said a blue SuperShuttle van sideswiped the passenger side of a Dodge Charger, rear-ended a Chrysler Pacifica -- causing it to run off the road and into a ditch -- and then hit a taxicab from behind. The taxi then struck a guardrail.
The driver of the Pacifica and her 1-year-old daughter were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
A representative for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority said they received a call from a woman who said her vehicle was hit by a SuperShuttle van and kept going on the express Dulles Airport Highway.
A woman told Virginia State Police that a SuperShuttle van rear-ended her Mercedes C240 on I-66 at the Dulles Connector Road/Route 267 and then continued on the access highway.
Airports Authority Police said they located the van at the Dulles Terminal and took the the driver into custody. They are working with Arlington Police and State Police based on other reports of crashes.
When Airports Authority Police got to the shuttle, no one else was in the van. They do not know if anyone else was in it at any point during the alleged incidents.
According to statements from witnesses and the driver, the SuperShuttle was traveling between 90 mph and 95 mph on I-66.
