A community is mourning after a shooting at a corner market in Brookland that left a store manager dead.
Police say 46-year-old Rajeshkumar Patel of Bowie, MD was killed during a robbery at the Newton Foodmart on 12th and Newton Streets around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance video of the incident. They say two men wearing hooded sweatshirts entered the store, and ordered Patel's wife and son to the floor. Patel was in a back room and did not know about the robbery. He was shot when he walked out.
Neighbors say his death leaves a void in the community.
"It's a shame. A good man gone, a working family, a terrible loss," said one neighbor.
Police are offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in the case.
