A fire that started in the attic of an Alexandria-area duplex may have a bird's nest to blame.
Fairfax County firefighters contained the fire quickly Sunday morning, News4's Derrick Ward reported.
Fire investigators haven't determined a cause, but firefighters said a bird's nest apparently was obstructing a fan at the scene of the fire, according to Dan Schmidt, of Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.
"Now that the snow's over, we've got squirrels, there's birds that nest up into attics and eaves, and they sometimes can chew through anything, and that can create a lot of damage not only inside your house and they can easily be a fire hazard as well," Schmidt said.
No injuries were reported. The homeowners were not present at the time of the fire.
