Archaeologists from three different agencies are surveying a shipwreck dating back to the War of 1812 found in the Patuxent River in Prince George's County.
The team is trying to uncover evidence of the dramatic events preceding the bloody four-hour Battle of Bladensburg.
They have mapped an underwater area thought to be the resting place of the U.S.S. Scorpion. And they excavated two 6-by-10 foot test areas to help them identify what part of the shipwreck they are on.
These findings will further supplement Marylandβs extensive contributions to the national War of 1812 Bicentennial.
