Police in Prince George's County, Md., are investigating the seventh homicide of the new year in the county, authorities said.
At about 11:45 a.m. Thursday, police received a report of a shooting in the 900 block of Central Hills Lane in the Seat Pleasant area. A nearby detective reached the scene in about a minute and saw someone running from the scene. The detective put out an APB and that person was caught by police on Hill Road, NBC Washington's Aaron Gilchrist reported.
The victim was found in a car. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Officers also found a weapon near the scene, police said.
The number of homicides in Prince George's County decreased over 2009 and 2010, but 2011 has had a violent start. Wednesday night in Oxon Hill, a man was found suffering from gunshot wounds in the hallway of an apartment building.
That followed five other homicides in that same general area. In two of the cases, the victims were duct taped, and police believe those are connected. Police also said the majority of the slayings have be drug connection.
