A $200 million expansion of the Maryland Live! Casino will add a 17-story hotel, massive concert venue, luxurious spa and many more amenities to the largest gaming center in the state, casino officials announced Monday.
The hotel is slated to include 310 rooms, an event center, meeting spaces, a spa and new dining options, which will all be adjacent to the casino in Anne Arundel County. The expansion plan also include a 1,500-seat concert venue, a shopping center and about 1,000 parking spaces.
"The addition of our flagship Live! Hotel is just the latest investment we are making to ensure Maryland Live! continues to be the preferred choice for visitors seeking a world-class gaming and entertainment experience," said Robert J. Norton, president of Cordish Global, the developers behind the expansion, in a release.
The plan comes amid the ongoing construction of the MGM National Harbor resort in Prince George's County, which will include hundreds of luxury rooms for guests and more than 3,000 permanent jobs for those in the area. MGM National Harbor is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
The Live! Hotel is expected to bring hundreds of jobs to the area, including about 550 in construction and about 400 permanent jobs, according to a statement from the casino.
Groundbreaking for the Live! Hotel is scheduled for this fall, and the project should be completed by the end of 2017.
