Pia Toscano may have come in ninth on “American Idol,” but she’s scored a first rate record deal.
The season 10 performer has signed with Interscope Records and will release her debut single “This Time” on July 12, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The track was reportedly penned and co-produced by Esther Dean, who has authored a string of hits for Rihanna and is featured on Nicki Minaj’s “Superbass.”
Toscano will promote the new tune while out this summer as part of the “American Idol LIVE” tour, according to THR.
The record deal is a validation for Toscano, who many “Idol” watchers considered a frontrunner to win the Fox competition until her early elimination earlier this year.
She went on to belt out her hit cover, “I’ll Stand by You,” on “Dancing with the Stars” as part of a collaboration with pro-dancer and rumored beau Mark Ballas.
“I am thrilled to be joining the Interscope and 19 Recordings family. [Interscope Geffen A&M Chairman] Jimmy Iovine was an amazing mentor during my time on Idol and I’m looking forward to working with him and everyone at Interscope Records and 19 Recordings,” Toscano said in a statement. “This is a dream come true.”
Her debut album drops next year.
