Madonna fans rejoice – the Material Girl is officially heading back to the studio!
The queen of pop confirmed she's working on a new album, with an eye on a Spring 2012 release, she announced during an interview in Venice, Italy, during the 68th annual Venice Film Festival.

"[I've] started a little bit of work in the studio," Madonna said during an interview with Sweden's Sveriges Television, while promoting her big screen directorial debut, "W.E.," in Venice.
Once she's done in Venice, the superstar said she would continue working on her album in "New York, until the end of the year."

Madonna first kicked off efforts on the new release in early July, her manager Guy Oseary announced at the time on his Twitter page.

"It's official.. Madonna's 1st day in the recording studio for the new album… Very exciting.. Happy 4th of july," he Tweeted at the time.
During her interview in Venice, Madonna noted she expects the first single to drop in February or March, leading up to the album's spring release.

The new album, whose title has yet to be announced, will be Madonna's first studio release since 2008's "Hard Candy," which debuted atop the Billboard 200 and went on to sell 3.8 million copies worldwide.
