After appearing as a musical guest twice, Lady Gaga proved that she can take a joke during her "Saturday Night Live" hosting debut.
For her monologue, Lady Gaga sang a cabaret-style rendition of her single "Applause," accompanied by some jazzy choreography.
During the bit, the pop star made her way into the audience to applaud teachers and firefighters. However, she also encountered a man named Jeff (Bobby Moynihan), who takes his pants off on the subway to "wag it around."
Gaga said Jeff should be ashamed of himself, to which he responded, "Oh I see when I take my pants off on the subway I'm a perv but when you do it onstage it's art."
"Okay that's fair," she said. "That's super fair. Actually, I owe you an apology."

The day's top national and international news.
Throughout the show, Gaga continued to make jokes about her career.
On a talkshow entitled "Waking Up With Kimye" hosted by Kanye West (Jay Pharoah) and Kim Kardashian (Nasim Pedrad), Gaga played a nerdy Apple store employee. When asked about her frumpy work outfit, she made a joke seeming to allude to old rumors that she is secretly a man.
"But honestly I don't care about fashion," Gaga said. "I think people who try too hard with their outfits are maybe hiding something."
The episode also saw a fake commercial featuring horrible covers by famous artists like Britney Spears (Noël Wells) who sang "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen and Rick Ross (Keenan Thompson) who covered "Cups (When I'm Gone)" by originally sang by actress Anna Kendrick.
Gaga appeared as herself, supposedly to cover Madonna's "Express Yourself." However she sang her single "Born This Way" instead, poking fun at the parallels some have drawn between the two hit songs.
The show opened with a sketch poking fun at Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, who recently admitted to smoking crack and buying illegal drugs. In a television news segment, a Canadian reporter (Taran Killam) asked Ford (Moynihan) if he was worried about his public image.
Ford responded, "Of course I am but you know I feel like my public image is suffering because I don't have any good photos. Every time I'm in the news, you know, they show one where I'm all sweaty, or red faced, or my neck is missing."
The show then cut to footage of disastrous press conference apologies from Ford. The reporter told Ford people won't believe his apologies anymore and the mayor shot back, "Then I'm going to go on a show where people do believe me and will believe anything I say."
Ford is then shown on CBS' "60 Minutes" being interviewed by Lara Logan (Kate McKinnon), who recently had to apologize for a story about the 2012 Benghazi attack, based in part on the testimony of a man who said he was there, but whose account has since been seriously undermined by conflicting reports about his whereabouts on the night of the attack.
Logan introduced Ford as "patriot, hero, role model." She asked him "what is the truth?" and Ford denied ever doing crack, smoking weed, or using alcohol.
"I believe you," Logan said.
"Weekend Update" with Seth Meyers and Cecily Strong also targeted Mayor Ford for a joke.
"Ford this week also signed limited edition bobble head dolls of himself outside city hall," Meyers said. "Interesting fact: Bobble head is one of the side effects of smoking crack."
Kenan Thompson also joined the desk as "Mr. Senior," an elderly man who took issue with how quickly Christmas decorations appear after Halloween. The segment ended with a pretaped skit showing Thompson aggressively taking down decorations all around Rockefeller Plaza.
”SNL" also poked fun at President Barack Obama's recent troubles in a fake commercial about “Paxil: Second Term Strength,” as “the only anti-depressant strong enough for an embattled second term."
The ad, featuring Obama (Jay Pharoah) says the drug can help treat a range of symptoms, “like Benghazi. The NSA scandal. The IRS scandal. The AP scandal. The Petraeus scandal. That time Jay-Z and Beyonce went to Cuba. And, of course, Obamacare website problems.”
But the drug came with a disclaimer: "Warning, Paxil is not covered by Obamacare. We promised that it would be, but it's not. And for that, we apologize."
Lady Gaga performed her single "Do What U Want" (with a special appearance by R. Kelly) and her song "Gypsy."
Next week "SNL" will return with host Josh Hutcherson from "The Hunger Games" and musical guest Haim.
