The reports of Morgan Freeman's demise have been greatly exaggerated.
A tweet sent from CNN's Twitter account indicated that the famed actor had died on December 16, but it was apparently a hoax, reports New York.
The tweet in question read "@CNN: Breaking News: actor Morgan Freeman has passed away in his Burbank home," and has since been deleted from the news network's account.
Later in the day, CNN responded with a statement denying the information.
"CNN did not report Morgan Freeman death. Rumor is false. CNN will aggressively investigate this hoax," it said over Twitter.
Peter Shankman, an entrepreneur and friend of Freeman's, addressed the rumors on the microblogging site.
"Dear CNN: Morgan Freeman is still busy living. He's yet to get busy dying. Please confirm first," he wrote on his Twitter account.

A rep for the actor did confirm that he still walked among the living.
Freeman is "very much alive" said his publicist, Stan Rosenfield.
The "Dark Knight Returns" star is hardly the first celeb to have erroneous reports of their death show up online. Harrison Ford, Natalie Portman and Jeff Goldblum, among many others, have been mentioned in online hoaxes.
